Tuning

Live or static tuning is the heart of MaxTune. Tuning will only proceed if there is a freshly Read file under the program's root installation directory. Before you can begin tuning certain criteria must be met. First, you must move the BIN image you want to tune into slot 7 by changing BIN position. Next you must select the .007 position from the Configuration tab.

Next click on the Fuel Maps or Ignition Maps tabs to begin tuning, the START TUNING button will only appear when you are on one of the two tunable map tabs.

When you click on the grid for the map you want to tune, the grid changes color, and the selction box is more easily visible at a glance. You may navigate through the grid with the arrow keys, and PageUp/PageDn keys. To change a value, use the - / + keys. As changes are made you will see the change in the visual graph display, and hear an audible beep from the emulator unit, indicating the change.

In this example you can see the results of the changes made.

When you have completed your tuning on a particular map, click the STOP TUNING button. Here we illustrate using the map copy/paste feature. This feature is used by right-clicking your mouse over the gird. This cannot be used during live tuning, but you may copy/paste maps to different map positions in a chip image, or from/to another loaded chip image. The Undo Paste will reverse the paste should you need to.

All tuning must be done using the raw data values, but you may also display the actual interpreted values by selecting the Fuel Values or Ign Values buttons. The fuel value is the fuel correction factor. Example, 5% fuel correction is read 1.05%.

Ignition values are read as degrees of timing advance.

To scale an entire map by X number of units, click the Scale Map button. This opens the following window:

On this screen you will determine which map to scale, how many units to add or subtract, then click Set Map to apply the change. Map scaling cannot be done while in tuning mode.

Once you have completed tuning the images in the Maxtronic will be identical to those in your current C:\Program Files\download\MAXOUT.BIN file. To get the new images onto your computer you must now perform an Extract operation. Then change the names of the original file name in the Available BIN Files window using the Import BIN File button. Then Unload BIN so that the newly edited chip image is now in your \bins directory.
